Drag racing is not a hobby of past but it is still a popular hobby among many of the guys. You will usually observe cars like Maseratis, Ferraris, and BMWs racing down the road but the car White Zombie by John Wayland, is a game changer and is a type that actually wouldn’t suppose to see them racing high-end machines, let racing them alone out. The guys driving Ferrari or BMW will not get pawned by any old Datsun.
The White Zombie is a 1972 Datsun. 1972 Datsun seems a little like a paradox. This is almost 40-years-old car that has been revamped with an electric motor, dual-armature 9-inch series-wound that Wayland had custom built for the car. It may sound stupid to have a little like that built for a car so old and one that really by no means had much cred in the racing society, even back in the ‘70s, but Datsun 1200 can do zero to 60 in a short time of 1.8 seconds that make it the world’s speediest electric car. The top speed of the car is recorded at 129 mph. It actually can take a quarter-mile in 11.46 seconds with a top speed of 114 mph that creates a world record.
A192-cell lithium-polymer battery is used in the White Zombie which uses 22.7 kWh of energy and totals 355 Volts. The batteries are much expensive, at $100,000 or more a piece, but Wayland has acquired chief funding all through the year to finance the materials. These batteries are in fact a sample made for Navy helicopters.
The car is not inevitably new. Back in 1994, Wayland built it and it is winning races for 17 years. Looking even further back, Wayland built the Blue Meanie in 1980, another Datsun-turned-electric. Wayland says that he got the idea of the car as a child “while playing with battery-powered toy cars and choking on big city air pollution.”
The White Zombie is even street legal which boasts 500-plus horsepower. The owner of a racing car can think that he’ll beat the Wayland’s Datsun easily but Wayland is able enough to beat the innumerable numbers of racers on the road who take a look at the car. Many of the people never get satisfied with a rematch after observing the White Zombie in action. So it is better to have a test drive rather than judging a book by its cover.
